Timeline of the Fire

  • Monday, March 21, 2022 – Afternoon
    • A fire was first reported in a rear portion of the historic downtown building near Main and Court Streets.
    • Fire departments responded and believed the fire had been extinguished after working the scene for several hours.  
  • Tuesday, March 22, 2022 – Around 5:30–6:00 a.m.
    • The fire reignited overnight.
    • Flames rapidly spread through the two-story historic structure, heavily involving the roof and upper floors before firefighters arrived. Carrollton Fire Chief Mike Terrell stated the fire was already blowing out second-story windows and through the roof when crews pulled up.  
  • During Fire Operations
    • Multiple agencies responded to fight the blaze.
    • Large portions of the building collapsed as crews battled the fire.
    • The historic structure, built in 1891, was considered a total loss.  

Businesses Affected

The fire destroyed or damaged several downtown businesses, including:

  • Artful Gifts Etc.
  • Sweet & Savory Blessings (reportedly suffered less severe damage)

    • A wall from the damaged Maguana’s building collapsed into Court Street the day after the main fire.  

Injuries & Investigation

  • Thankfully, no fatalities or serious injuries were reported.
  • The cause of the fire remained under investigation by the Kentucky State Fire Marshal.
